Hypertension treatment – why aren’t we doing better?

Blood pressure lowering strategies are still failing to bring adequate control to a majority of patients with hypertension in the UK. Between 1994 and 2011, Health Surveys for England have shown the prevalence of hypertension has remained stable at 32 per cent, with progressive improvements in hypertension patients being aware of their diagnosis (71 per cent), in being treated (58 per cent) and having blood pressure adequately controlled (37 per cent).
