Government apology for thalidomide

he Government has expressed ‘sincere regret and deep sympathy for the injury and suffering endured by all those affected when expectant mothers took the drug thalidomide between 1958 and 1961’.

    Funding of £20 million has been drawn from existing budgets for three pilot studies of meeting the health needs of thalidomide victims in ‘a more personalised way’ for adaptations and preventive measures to reduce long-term demand on NHS resources.
