Janumet: combined tablet for type 2 diabetes
Published on 06/19/10Another combined formulation of a gliptin and metformin has been introduced for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Janumet (sitagliptin 50mg and metformin 1000mg) is licensed as add-on therapy to a sulphonylurea, a glitazone or insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can also be used to add sitagliptin to ineffective metformin monotherapy and to replace the two drugs given separately.
Janumet costs £34.56 for 28 days’ treatment at one tablet twice daily compared with £29.64 for Eucreas (vildagliptin/metformin).
