Tocilizumab in RA
Published on 07/05/10A licence extension for the anti-IL-6 monoclonal antibody tocilizumab (RoActemra) recognises its effects on joint damage and physical functioning.
The two-year LITHE trial showed that combining tocilizumab with methotrexate significantly reduced radiographic progression and improved physical function in patients with rheumatoid arthritis compared with methotrexate alone. The incidence of serious adverse events was similar but combined therapy was associated with more adverse events leading to treatment modification or withdrawal.
